Presoak the jersey in detergent and cold water prior to washing. Wash it as soon as possible after a stain occurs. Washing in cold water protects jerseys in two ways: prevents colors from running/bleeding; and is gentler on embellishments (heat may cause embellishments to crack, melt and/or detach).
